the worst pies in london - for sure
Runjini got free comped tickets from her work to Sweeney Todd so the three of us (Runj, Helen, myself) viewed the 8o'clock showing last night. I didn't know much about the premise and it took me a few songs in before I got a little more interested, but for what it was it was a good show. The storyline is gory, dark, and twisted (uhh..a barber who kills people in his chair and makes them into meat pies? oh well, still not enough to put me off meat pies. yummmm..meeeeeaaaat piiiiiiie), but the minimal staging is clever and well done. I was impressed that the entire cast consisted of only approx. 10 people, all of which had to play their own instrument, sometimes even two, whilst singing and acting at the same time. I was even informed that this broadway play is being made into a movie, featuring none other than (and very appropriately) Johnny Depp as the title character. aaaaand not surprisingly Helena Bonham Carter and Tim burton are involved with the project as well. I'm not sure if the story intrigues me enough to want to see the movie version, out in december this year supposedly, but I might like to see what Depp does with the role. I hate to say it but I was never much of a fan until I saw him as Jack Sparrow, and that was such a cheesy, stupid role. Okay, maybe he was good in What's Eating Gilbert Grape, too.... and possibly Edward Scissorhands, but I never did get around to seeing that.
ANYWAY, i digress. I had a fanciful, yet busy labor day weekend.
- Friday - ice skating, soft serves
- Saturday - hiking on angel island, The Simpsons Movie
- Sunday - Gay Sunday Morning Step (they're so awesome and DAMN do they know how to shimmy), Subway Sandwich, reading in Alamo Square
- Monday - Laundry, laundry, ARGH laundry!
yes, very fanciful indeed. It was really great to have that extra day off, but it's made me feel a bit lackluster this week. Even the prospect of seeing two shows this week hasn't brought me out of my schlumpy feeling, but pms can do that to you, I suppose.
I see Mamma Mia! (yes, with an exclamation point. I could be wrong, but I think it's part of the official title?) tonight!
